I often ask people who they LOVE and HATE when it comes to brands. No-one ever struggles to get incensed about hateful big brands that have let them down, lied to them and otherwise behaved badly. In fact sometimes I need to restrain them...Tesco's name does come up quite often... Apart from using it to gouge poorer customers Tesco is on record (documented a few years ago by the All Party Parliamentary Small Shops Group) for cutting prices until they have driven local independents out of business.

Without price flexing it would be much harder, probably impossible, to compete in all markets and niches and that could only be a good think - although I don't expect Tesco apologists to agree!Gordonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09261797893125328161noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4169740113013066976.post-74767941162070666342013-04-18T14:22:59.028+01:002013-04-18T14:22:59.028+01:00I think it's because Tesco isn't a great b...I think it's because Tesco isn't a great brand. People only shop there because it's relatively cheap, or because they have no choice.

You couldn't say the same about, say Waitrose, which has a great brand, despite enjoying all the privileges of scale that Tesco does.

Isn't it the difference between "premium" brands (Apple, Waitrose, Gap, Richer Sounds) and ordinary brands (Tesco, Argos, HMV)?pablopatitonoreply@blogger.com
